FEEDBACK FROM ANOTHER CLASS!

We recieved feedback from another group, here it is.....;

Genre: Brit pop/rock/Indie bands shots normal settings no intertextual references. some good syncing of music instruments, suits music. On first shot of singer playing guitar good (thumbs up)
Relationships: Hes singing the words trying to be someone, as he's trying to make it big.
People playing in time to the track.
Colours relate well to the track.
Camera work: Good variety of shots Great guitar close ups. Some great smooth shots. Good angles (High & Low) Poor positioning in the dark room (cuts off part of his head) The camera could've moved instead of the singer (to make it different)
Editing: use of interesting fades at the start. Cuts keep with the tempo of the song. at start cuts are slower but clean cut from different pieces.

Mise-En-Scene Garage type setting gives quite a typical brit pop look. Fairly bleak - reminiscent of Manchurian music videos (urban/social decay of degradation etc...) Though there wasn't a great range of shots.
Special FX: Over laying of shots worked well with the speed of the music. Worked well.

we have just.......

well we have just watched our video on the big screen baby!!!

we all went to the picture house to view the everyone in the years videos

it was a good oportunity for us to see our video properly, obviously as a group we had seen it on the small screen but theres nothing like seeing it in the big and we are all very proud of it

it was also a good oportunity for the rest of the year to see our video and we received some feedback on it...... and more or less everyone that made a comment on it said they were happy with the outcome

this is good becuase the critics are never wrong!!

the video is finally finished we put some effort in after school and did some work in our free periods but we have finally completed the project. we did our final look through and we are all pleased we feel that there isn't much else that we can put on our project, we are all proud and it is very much thumbs up!!


and now our project is as Gordon Ramsay says "done"

Final Shoot & Last 2 and a bit Lessons

At college yesterday whilst Tom was left hard at work editing bits and bobs on the video, Matt, Frank & Jack went out on the final shoot! After feedback given, we came to realize that we had NO CUT AWAYS!!! :o So we went out and shot some. The shoot was successful and we gathered the recordings we desired. The Stairway outside college and the Bridge on Long Road proved to be very good shot locations.


After a hard lessons filming the 3 returned to Tom with some more footage and we uploaded onto the computer for editing.

This then set us on our way for the final 2 lessons and after college hours session to edit the footage and have it all done and dusted, ready for showing at the Arts Picture House next week! Yaaaaaaay!

sooooo today

so today bright and early at the butt crack of dawn frank tom and matt did some filming, however tom was asleep when frank and matt were setting up



never fear becuase super tom awoke


and we could start filming,

we took into account some of the comments that were made from the feeback sesh and turned it from a matt fest to a group of love



to do this we had

tom on the drums


frank on bass


and matt on the lead gutiar


this made our band look more like a group, it also takes some of the focus away from matt, we played around with the shots had a laugh and the three of us there were quite happy with what we got, we have done some interesting shots such as we made it look like tom was playing the drums and hit the stick on the camera giving the illusion the stick is coming down on the audience,YEA

hope it turns out well as alot of effort was put in during the moring not least to wake up tom!

One slight problem....

Upon viewing our rough cut many a time, we have realised the error of our ways.Our video is a 3:26 MATTFEST, and is utterly boring.

Have no fear, for we shall correct this, we will introduce the band into the video, as this could be make or break for our project.

Lip syncing was good but the music took a long time to kick in,
maybe use some different shots because they are quite limited,
the fish eye was used well.
where sure its got a lot of editing to do, but its looking good at the moment.

Beggining Footage for Rough cut

We have began to start filming for our rough cut , with the use of locations such as , the dark room and staircase. We felt that these were effective in our test footage , as both the lighting and the un tidy affect they both have are appropriate for the song with the links with the film 'quadrophenia' .We have now filmed about 4 shot angles of the song in the dark room and today have begun to film real footage within the stair case.

Ideas for replacement cut aways

Instead of having the storyline, we have decided to replace it with other various cut aways. Some of the ideas we have had are:

- The artist playing instruments
- Shots with use of Special effects
-Abstract shots
- Moving shots with links to competitions ,linking with the theme of "gotta be someone"
-Abstract shots of urban areas.


These will be used to brake up the singing performances to make the video more visually stimulating.With relevance to the theme of bettering yourself which is carried with in the lyrics.

we have changed our video, we no longer feel it suitable to have cut aways in the form of a story as we dont think we will be able to get it finished, we have decided to have some cut aways but not many. the rest of the video will be of a perfomance,

Clothing

We got a repsonse from the artist, David Potts, who told us that everytime he thought of his song, he thought of Jimmy, the main chracter from the film, Quadrophenia. This film was based around the life of a mod in the 1960's. We researched the film and Mod Culture, and came up with these pieces, which can help us get the right look for the piece.

hard to understand the plot, because there is no emotion in the faces, and you cannot tell the tone of the piece. we like the pace of it as it fits the song nicely.

Animatic Ideas

We have been listening to the track that we have chosen for our music video and then began to sketch ideas of shots for different sections of the track. This was a fast way to get down our ideas of animatic shots onto the paper . After we had began to get a range of shots down on paper we began to organise these shots into a rough order so that they were clear when they were used in the animatic.We found that there was a theme of travelling and movement in the sketches as each of the characters involved are searching for something. These included ideas of high angle shots of mans feet walking down a cobbled road.Whilst another involved the man running in desperation for the train.

the song

we found a review of the song which we thought summed up the song quite well

"The instant attack of the thumping drums sets the song up to show it really is powerful. Covering the drums is a somewhat 'sparse sounding' layer of guitar and bass. It works very well indeed - simplicity at its best. Pottsy's vocals on this track make it both strong and vulnerable at the same time - great lyrics. The track trails off, lulling one into a false sense of security, before attacking again with a brief instrumental and chorus."

this is a basic example of what we meant by lots of people in a busy town,

settings

the setting of our video will ideally be in the town in rush hour, we want lots to be happening with lots of people around so that we can really make the idea of the wilderness in the characters heads. the boy will be at the train statioin, he will just miss his first train and we will have shots of him running up and close ups of the despair on his face, we will have shots of trains going past him waiting for his one with a look on his face that shows a look of dispair and disapointment becuase he knows he cant get to where he wants, we will also have the girl in the middle of town maybe down the backs not being able to get to where she wants, she will try and struggle. the idea behid this is becuase in the song it keeps saying got to be someone. i wanna be something, which is why we wanted to show the people who are trying to be something together. when they are alone they arent proper people they dont feel themselves but when they are together it is like the other people complete them.

we want to try and get the setting at dusk or night time, we dont want it to dark but we want it so that it isnt really that bright, we will have saturised colour making it really dull untill the end, if we make the people meet up then we will bring colour in but becuase the song trails off at one point it leaves it open for us to decide whether we want a happy ending or a sad ending, we will be using the dark setting and the desaturised colour also as a metaphore as it seems as if the two characters lives have no live no colour with out each other.

our pitch

our pitch will be focusing on the split screen. we will be using a perfomance of the song on opne of the screens, we will probably use 3 screens in one shot, the other two screens will focus on the story, one of the screens may be used to focus on things such as parts of the peoples body, the story will be focusing on two people a boy and a girl who are looking for each other, the audience do not know much about them or why they are looking for each other but they know that they are looking for each other. the idea behind this is due to the lyrics, although we still haven't manager to get a copy or the lyrics yet we have started to listen to them and to read into them in a way that we want.

the first fews lines go like this: walking down miles of beach, rain attacks my eyes, looking for the tide,

we listened to this and thought that it meant something metaphorical such as the beach that he is on as being the wilderness or the loneliness that the person is in, the rain attacking his eyes is the the struggle that he faces and the things that are preventing him to get to what we wants and the tide is the thing that he wants to find. this is why we chose what we did becuase we thought that we could have that the two people that our in our story are people that are both on their beach, both alone, we want to emphasise this by the way that around them well be really busy street, or really busy suberbs that they are in lots of action going on around them, preferably it will be during rush hour that we do it so there are lots of cars lots of noise lots of everything, but in their heads there is nothing, and then the rain which in the song is the thing preventing him getting to what he wants will be lots of stuff in our song, we will have one character miss the train another one not being able to get out of wherever she is, there will be many obsticalls, we re not sure whether we will try and get rain during the song, ideally we would like it but we cannot rely on the rain as we are not sure if we could all the shots in knowing british weather.

this is a song that we will be using as an influence. we saw this video and liked the idea of the split screen so wanted to try and imiatate that in our video. this song i plain white t's- hey their delilah

the initial ideas for the song is to try and take the lyrics and se them as metaphores for our song. we wil have a performance with cut aways of a story, we will be using split screen to show the performance and the cut aways at the same time. the story will have a boy and a girl searching for each other.

i represent a group of students from long road sixth form college, we are taking A2 media and for our coursework we have to create, shoot and edit a music video. we were given a list of songs to choose from and these were which i had to do as a music video, we have chosen your song, "got to be someone," although we have to pitch our ideas to our teachers it seems increasingly likely that we will be using your song as our idea, we were wondering if we could be sent a copy of these lyrics as a start as we our unable to find them and need to lipsynch to the music.

secondly we were wondering where you are based as we may incorporate this into our video.

we also were wondering if you had any suggestions for our video, being the bloke who wrote the song you have the idea to what you meant behind the lyrics and if there was any suggestions that could be made in relation to the video.
